Just under 4 weeks after our first set of games, the Sydney City Serpents are set to take the field again this Saturday, 22 April 2017, at the Kingsway Fields in St. Mary's.
The Serpents will again play 4 matches throughout the day and we will also see a few new players pull on the purple and grey for the very first time.

In an incredible turn of events over the past week, Sydney City Serpents Quidditch Club are delighted to announce that ex-San Francisco 49ers and Gold Coast Titans player have signed a one-year contract to play quidditch.
Landing on his 4th sporting code in as many years, the Hayne Plane tells us how excited he is to now be a part of the Sydney City Serpents. "This is a dream come true for me. I have always dreamt of playing quidditch and I can't think of a better team to start my quidditch career with, other than the Sydney City Serpents." From all at the Sydney City Serpents Quidditch Club, we welcome you to the 2017 season. In a matter of hours, the Serpents will make their competitive debut at the NSW State's first Triwiz tournament of the year and the draw has given the Serpents some mouthwatering match-ups.
With the tournament joint hosted at the UNSW Village Green tomorrow, 26 March 2017, The Serpents have been drawn to play against Newcastle Fireballs for their debut game at 9am. A game against last year's QUAFL Runner-Ups, Western Sydney Quidditch Club, then follows at 11am. The Sydney City Serpents are extremely proud to announce that the 2016 Quidditch World Cup winning pair and the 2016 NSW Premiership Co-Captains Natalie Astalosh and Luke Derrick will take the rein as the inaugural club co-captains of The Serpents.
After another round of voting completed by Serpents players who had to vote for 2 players from the Leadership Group to be their co-captains, it was clear that Nat and Luke were hugely favoured by their peers. Although if we look back at their Quidditch resume, Nat and Luke's appointment is a credit to what they have achieved together in the years that have gone by. The Sydney City Serpents players have selected their very first leadership group that will lead the club for the 2017 season. The selected players who have earned the honour are 2016 Quidditch World Cup winning and 2016 NSW Premierhip pair Natalie Astalosh & Luke Derrick, 2016 NSW Premiership player Gary Hague, and 2016 NSW State Representatives Elle Crumpton & Kit Mulcaster.
A new year and a new season gives the opportunity for any Quidditch club to revamp itself, if necessary, to strengthen itself from the previous year or to stay consistent. This could mean recruiting new players for the new year and/or reshuffling the leadership structure of the team. With 2017 being the inaugural season for the Sydney City Serpents, the club had to recruit and create a brand new leadership group. After a great trials session last Saturday, the Sydney City Serpents are extremely proud and excited to announce our roster for the 2017 season.
Brimming with notable talents from the Australian Dropbears and NSW State teams, the Serpents are looking forward to great things in 2017. |
